Everything You Need to Know About Plexr

Plexr, has been termed “soft surgery” which best describes this procedure. It delivers surgical results, but with no scalpel, wounds or stitches, no bandages and only minimal downtime. It implies minimally invasive procedures, with lower risk and is more cost effective than most cosmetic surgery procedures. Plexr can treat a vast number of skin issues and is considered one of the best multipurpose tools in aesthetic dermatology to date. Read further as we discuss everything there is know about Plexr.

How does it work?

The PlexR is a handheld device that works through the process of “sublimation” (that’s the process of turning a solid into gas) and the principle of ionisation of gases that are contained in the air. These actions produce “plasma”, which is used to contract and tighten your skin’s surface. The energy that it generates is delivered directly to the superficial skin cells only, without affecting any deeper or surrounding tissues. The tissue underneath is protected from heat whilst the surface of the skin contracts and heals in order to accomplish results. Healing is quick and scar-free, improving skin elasticity and resulting in smoothness. Plexr is a very precise treatment with minimal downtime and long lasting results.

In terms of hooded and droopy eyelids, for example, PlexR instantly reduces the excess skin on the upper or lower eyelid, as well as shrinking any excess skin in the external region around the eye. It even improves any expression lines at the corner of your eyes and cheekbones (the facial lines commonly known as crow’s feet).

Unlike traditional surgery, PlexR treatments are performed without cutting, without removing excess skin or fat and, with regards to eye treatments, without modifying the orbicular muscle of the eyelids. This keeps you safe from all risks inherent to the traditional surgical intervention.

Plexr treats the following skin problems:

  • Wrinkle correction or reduction and skin rejuvenation of face and neck.

  • Perioral lines or smokers lines

  • Scar tissue including acne scar treatment

  • Correcting hooded and droopy eyelids (a procedure known as blepharoplasty)

  • Tattoo removal

  • Skin discolouration issues, such as sunspots, cloasma, melisma and vitiligo – all achieved without the use of lasers or chemical peels

  • Moles, skin tags, warts and verrucas

  • Xanthelasma (without side-effects or possible recurrences).

What to Expect

Local anaesthetic gel is applied to the treatment area or in certain cases local anaesthetic will be injected. The Plexr device is then used on the area. Small brown patches will immediately appear where the skin has been treated and in the case of wrinkle treatment, the area will show some immediate contraction. The brown spots are known as carbon crusts, which take around 5-10 days to fall off. They will look burnt and brown before falling off on their own. In this time you will be instructed to apply post treatment products to the area to allow healing. For 2-3 weeks after this there will be redness, flaking and itching of the treated area.

In the treatment of the eyelids (Blepharoplasty), you should expect swelling which may last up to 7 days. The eye is a very delicate area and different people will react and swell differently - it is difficult to predetermine this. You may well be very swollen after treatment, and in the case of eyelid treatment, the extent of the swelling can be severe for several days.

How many Plexr treatments are needed?

The number of Plexr sessions you will require depends on the nature and extent of the excess skin, and the size of the area being treated. Typically, you may need between one and three treatments, usually four to six weeks apart. Treatments with Plexr are permanent. However, Plexr can’t stop the ageing process, meaning you may still consider subsequent treatments in the future.

How should you prepare for Plexr?

Please advise your aesthetician of any medication you may be taking. They will need to know if you are taking antibiotics, blood thinners or Isotretinoin. You can not receive treatment if you have active infections or open wounds on the area for treatment. You must be prepared to take time off work. After treatment, you will be swollen for several days. You will also have black/brown crusting on the treated area which will persist for up to two weeks after treatment.

Does it hurt?

There is usually only minor discomfort with Plexe treatments. For eyelid corrections, the blepharoplasty technique is defined as “dynamic”, which means that during the treatment, the practitioner will ask you to open and close your eyes.

What are the cons?

There are very few cons with PlexR. The treatment offers you all of the benefits that traditional surgery does not, including less discomfort, none of the traditional risks of surgery and a far quicker recovery rate – all at a substantially lower cost.

At World of Faces we offer this treatment and believe that it is a very effective way to treat certain skin issues. It is a non invasive procedure with very little downtime. Book an appointment with us today and we will advise you on how the treatment will best enhance your skin type.
